Darren Sylvester

Darren Sylvester is like Batman. But instead of playboy billionaire by day and vigilante crime fighter by night, he’s an acclaimed visual artist by day and debonair synth-pop genius by night. His persona as the louche, seductive Serge Gainsbourg of twenty-first-century Melbourne was developed, in fact, as part of an art project. Teaching himself guitar, keyboards and bass turned into a debut self-titled album released in 2008, which turned into live shows. His second album, Off by Heart, was influenced by the ’80s output of Compass Point Studios, the Bahamian site of production for classic albums like Remain in Light by Talking Heads and Nightclubbing by Grace Jones.
