Monica’s Gallery is managed by Spencer Lai and Jake Swinson. They say it is “like setting nineteen Labradors free to explore Niagara Falls with no documentation or discussion afterward”. In more practical terms, it’s a collaborative art practice that investigates the semiotics of overwhelming information streams generated by popular culture. How identity can be created (or fragmented) by its relentless consumerist drive. The Artist Interprets Highpoint, their recent show at Fort Delta, was constructed using materials sourced from Highpoint Shopping Centre and featured the work of Rare Candy, Ruth O’Leary, Rowan Oliver, Larissa Papamanos, Ander Rennick and Lachie Weiss.
