Natalie Jeremijenko

Natalie Jeremijenko is an artist, engineer and inventor who specialises in environmental and urban issues. She aims to challenge ideas about the relationship between environmentalism and cityscapes—most accessibly, through her Agbags project. Agbags are vertical urban farms that practically aim to promote environmental health and get people thinking about architecture’s intersection with the natural environment; in 2011, in New York, Natalie created a wall of these soil-filled bags suspended in air as part of a project at New York University’s Environmental Health Clinic. A visiting professor at the Royal College of Art in London, Natalie is also an associate professor in the visual art department at NYU, is affiliated with its computer science department, and was previously part of the visual arts faculty at the University of California, San Diego, and the faculty of engineering at Yale University.
