Nicholas Tsoutas

Art doesn’t exist in a vacuum, so how do we make sense of its place in modern culture? Through his practice, independent curator and writer Nicholas Tsoutas deals with postmodern theory and post-colonial critique in relation to globalisation, mobility, cultural exchange, hybridity and cultural diversity. By breaking down conceptual, installation and performance art, he explores the intertextual processes of interdisciplinary border crossing and intervention. Nicholas lectures in visual arts at the University of Sydney, and is a director of four major Australian art centres—the Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane, and ArtspacePerformance Space and Casula Powerhouse in Sydney.
