Research Unit in Public Cultures

The University of Melbourne’s Research Unit in Public Cultures examines the transformation of public culture: from an individual expression of views to the formation of collective value systems—and how our social practices then find their way into our public institutions. With the University’s support, researchers explores the collision of knowledge and culture, focusing on the places where media, space and mobility meet, both in Australia and overseas. Working with key partners—public, commercial and cultural—they investigate the what, why and how of the issues that are facing and changing public culture today.
