On opening day of our 2015/16 season, Womin Jeka Yalukit Willam—Elements 2 filled AL_A’s digital forest canopy with song, dance and the traditional language of the Boon Wurrung people. Written to welcome us to MPavilion, and to welcome MPavilion to our city, the atmospheric piece was a first-time collaboration between composers Deborah Cheetham and James Henry, who worked with Boon Wurrung elder Auntie Carolyn Briggs to translate their composition into verse. Featuring the Dhungala Children’s Choir, flautist Tamara Kohler and dancer Rheannan Port, the transfixing performance was the perfect accompaniment to our first steps under AL_A’s design.

As we move through the season, we welcome you to let Elements 2 accompany your mid-morning time-out. For five minutes each morning, from 10am to 10.05am, join us as the work plays through MPavilion’s audio-ready petals, filling the canopy with song and flute once more. Sip a coffee, pull up a stool and watch the sun’s reflections play along to the soundtrack of music and traditional Boon Wurrung language.
