Emma Crimmings

Emma Crimmings is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose subjects have ranged from gay men having babies in mid-west America to post-Taliban radio stations in Afghanistan. Prior to taking up her current role as director of Gertrude Contemporary, Emma worked as a curator at both the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and the Australian Centre for Photography, and, most recently, as the acting director and program manager of cultural affairs at the Embassy of Australia in Washington, DC. In 2015, Emma was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to undertake international research on artists residences programs and creative placemaking. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts’ School of Film and TV, Emma also has a Bachelor of Arts in art history and criticism, and has authored numerous books and publications on film and the visual arts.
