Kate Rohde and the Signal Curators, ‘Luminous Universe—Resin Meets Plasticine’
Sun 6 Dec 2015, 12.00pm–3.00pm
Off the back of last year’s cosy art-bed, the Signal Curators return to MPavilion with another intriguing collaborative art installation (and public play-space!): Luminous Universe—Resin Meets Plasticine. The young Curators have been working with Melbourne artist Kate Rohde to explore resin: its form, and how it plays with light and colour. Kate is well known for her ornate sculptures, vases and jewellery that resemble something you may find on another (much more colourful) planet. What in the world—or out of it—will the Curators create with her guidance? Will the sun dappling through MPavilion’s canopy affect the shadows and hues in their pieces?
Between midday and 3pm, wander curiously among their hand-moulded, rococo-inspired sculptures, accessories and intricate environments. Then: it’s time to contribute! Pick up a ball of plasticine, sculpt a fantastical creation and place it among the weird and wondrous world of resin. You won’t miss us on the day—just scout out the pop of brilliant colour.
