RMIT University

These days, RMIT is a global university of technology and design—but in 1887, it started life as the Working Men’s College, providing working men (and women) with education in the arts, technology and trades. After a couple of name changes and mergers with other local institutions, the college adopted the name ‘Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology’ in 1960, and has since developed an international reputation for excellence in education and outcome-oriented research. In fact, the QS Survey of World Universities by Subject ranks RMIT University in the top twenty in the areas of art and design.

In the 2015 Business of Fashion survey, RMIT’s School of Fashion and Textiles was rated in the top ten schools worldwide for students wanting to study fashion design. Along with offering programs in textiles design, fashion technology, textiles technology, fashion merchandising, fashion merchandise management and, of course, fashion design—as well as Masters programs in fashion design and fashion entrepreneurship—the school also supports fashion research students undertaking Masters and PhD studies through the School of Graduate Research.
