Corpus Medicorum

Physician: feel thyself—playing music, that is. Corpus Medicorum is an orchestra of doctors, medical students and health professionals founded in 2002 by cardiothoracic surgeon and violinist Phillip Antippa. They’re a group of medical professionals who are also professional about their classical repertoire—their 2015 season featured works by greats such as Beethoven, Shostakovich, Mendelssohn and Mahler. Corpus Medicorum is simultaneously a welcome creative check on the demanding professional lives of its musicians, a fundraising organisation (they’ve donated over $400,000 to the Royal Melbourne Hospital Lung Cancer Services, which Phillip leads) and one of the premier orchestras of its kind.
