Kate McMahon

Kate McMahon is a fine artist, an urban designer and a co-founder of Hello City, a big-picture agency that thinks up new strategies and solutions for cities, precincts, public places and everyday spaces. Forever interested in liveability and how humans interact with urban design, Kate has worked with Village Well on activation strategies for Sydney’s Darling Quarter; has consulted on large-scale greenfield developments, among other things, for EDAW (now Aecom) and Coomes Consulting (Downer EDI); and, most recently under the Hello City umbrella, has worked with Darebin City Council to develop an identity project for the northern Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, uncovering what it feels like, looks like and means to be a local.

Kate has taught at the Victorian College of the Arts, in the department of Social and Spatial Practice, as well as in the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, where, in both roles, she developed and encouraged cross-disciplinary approaches to landscape design, urban design and art.
