Kate Rohde

Artist Kate Rohde is well known for her brightly coloured molten sculptures—ornate and decorative and bordering on fantastical. She works by hand with resin, plasticine and even taxidermy to create her other-worldly pieces—which include vases, jewellery and a series of fake fur and papier-mâché dinosaurs in collaboration with uber-colourful Sydney fashion label Romance Was Born. Kate’s recent collaboration with Erub Erwer Meta Art Centre (from Darnley Island in the Torres Strait) is currently on show (and for sale) in the design store at the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, and at NGV International. She has received grants from Arts Victoria, the Australia Council for the Arts, City of Melbourne and Asialink in Tokyo, and exhibited at NGV’s epic contemporary art celebration Melbourne Now in 2013.
