PORTAL: ‘Soundscape, landscape, escape’ workshop
Prepare your ears for three aftenoons of full-body listening—and listening-while-making. As part of This Public Life 2015, a festival of landscape architecture that explores public life via the arts and sciences, Luke Jaaniste—sonic-spatial-social artist and co-director of public-sound project Super Critical Mass—brings both his collection of 1980s Yamaha Portasounds and his latest expanded music project, PORTAL, to MPavilion for a series of rich, slow, ambient and hypnotic audio installations and workshops.
At 5.30pm today—after we’ve paused, rested and connected among Luke’s first afternoon soundscape installation—we’re invited to jump under the canopy, hook up to mobile speakers and create our own audiovisual improvisations. The collaborative workshop will use simple sound objects, paired with simple instructions, to help us think about designing for mindful and ambient occupation of public space. Bring your smartphone (though it’s not essential) and join Luke in building upon his afternoon vintage-keyboard arrangements.
Meet at MPavilion at 5.30pm for a 6pm start. Spaces are limited! Click the link above to book your free spot.
