An evening of music by Melbourne musicians with—or with a relation to—trans identity. The music is appropriately diverse, as is its method of presentation. Simona Castricum performs emotional, ferocious electronic avant-pop—halfway between Jeff Mills and My Bloody Valentine. Geryon creates beat-driven soundscapes that are somehow both ethereal and forceful. Two Steps on the Water are aptly described by the title of their recent EP: Having Pop-Punk Feelings in a Country-Western Body. They use country’s musical language, grind it on a lo-fi stone and use it to express the type of woozily emotional sentiment Tammy Wynette could. Meanwhile, DJ Narcissique is a former New York City resident whose sets are inspired by house, techno and old-school hip-hop.
